The Associate of Applied Science in Wind Energy Technology is a comprehensive, Global Wind Organisation (GWO)-certified program that combines academic coursework with industry-recognized technical training to prepare graduates for immediate employment as wind turbine technicians or for transfer to a four-year institution. Building on the Career and Technical Certificate in Offshore Safety and Survival and the Technical Diploma in Wind Turbine Mechanics and Maintenance, the program provides students with the knowledge, technical and safety skills, and critical thinking abilities needed to succeed in the rapidly growing energy industry.
Students receive hands-on training in mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic Wind Turbine Generator systems; hazardous energy control (lockout/tagout); crane operations, rigging, and load handling; and the installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of wind turbine components. The curriculum also emphasizes safe work practices, advanced rescue techniques, diagnostic procedures, and the use of drones for turbine inspection and assessment. General education coursework in mathematics, science, communications, and other academic disciplines strengthens students' analytical, problem-solving, and professional skills, preparing them for both workforce success and continued education.
Graduates earn the CTC in Offshore Safety and Survival and the TD in Wind Turbine Mechanics and Maintenance as part of the degree program, along with OSHA 10, First Aid/CPR, and eight Global Wind Organisation (GWO) certifications, equipping them with the internationally recognized credentials and comprehensive training sought by employers throughout the offshore wind industry.
