CTS-WINT - Intermediate Welding, Certificate of Technical Studies
Download as PDF

This program prepares students to expand their structural technical capabilities by advancing into intermediate multi-process welding applications. Building upon foundational stick principles, students develop comprehensive proficiency in structural fabrication using Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), SMAW open-root, and Gas Metal Arc Welding (MIG/GMAW) or Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW). Technical instruction emphasizes advanced electrode manipulation, open-root joint design, and weld quality assessment through visual inspection standards. Courses are delivered via flexible eight-week blocks to support accelerated learning and timely progress through the curriculum. Graduates are equipped to enter the workforce as Structural Welders, Production Welders, or Shop Fabricators within the heavy construction, naval defense, petrochemical, and manufacturing sectors. The curriculum prepares students to pursue multi-process American Welding Society (AWS) credentials including SMAW 3G and 4G, open-root certifications across the 2G, 3G, and 4G positions, and GMAW or FCAW certifications in the 1G through 4G positions with or without backing. This credential serves as an embedded pathway, allowing all earned credits to stack directly into the Technical Diploma (TD) in Certified Combo Welder.
