Programs in the Care and Development of Young Children (CDYC) discipline prepare students to effectively educate young children while assuring their health, safety, and well-being in a number of professional settings. In Fall 2016, Nunez Community College opened a new early childhood classroom simulation lab houses in the College's Fine Arts Center.

The single course Technical Competency Area (TCA) serves as a credentialing course for Teachers at Child Care Centers seeking a 2-Star level or above under Louisiana's Quality Rating System.
The Certificate of Applied Science Program provides significant training that meets the 5-star requirements for Lead Teachers under Louisiana's Quality Rating System and meets most training requirements for Assistant Directors.
The Associate of Applied Science meets the child development training for a 5-Star Child Care Director under Louisiana's Quality Rating System.
